PB blocks ms windows updates downloads #214

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

What steps will reproduce the problem?

1. Open Firefox

2. Goto
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=5B33B5A8-5E76-401F-BE08
-1E1555D4F3D4&displaylang=en

3. Download the Windows XP SP3 Network installation file via
Firefox/DownThemAll

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

-DownThemAll reports Server error.
-PB flashes in tray.
-Logs show my computer hammering limelight networks: 208.111.181.x:80

-Unblocking entry it allows the download.

-I'm using the default lists. Why would a MS download mirror be in
the block lists?

What version of PeerBlock are you using? On what operating system? 32- or
64-bit?

-pb 1.0 on win7 trial 32 bit

Please provide any additional information below. Make sure to attach
peerblock.log and/or any screenshots that would help explain your problem.

The PeerBlock team isn't in charge of what goes in the lists, default or not.
The
good people at Iblocklist.com is where you find the people who decide what goes
in
the lists.

To answer the problem at hand, you could try whitelisting the Microsoft IP
addresses.
Instructions on that are found in the forum.

Correction to above: The instructions are on the main page, not the forum. My
mistake
there.

Yep, we actually have a couple of FAQs devoted to this topic:

- Something I need to access is blocked! What can I do?

- Why is "Some Company or Site" Blocked?

Closing this bug, since PeerBlock is doing what it's supposed to - blocking all
IP
addresses in the lists you've told it to use.
