Can anybody suggest where to find the system logs?

I followed successfully all the steps in installation instructions without any issues but it didn't say anywhere were to define what calendar goes into what channel.

Usually you can either:

check in your System Console -> Reporting -> Server Logs
check in terminal of your server itself
- /your/mattermost/installation/folder/logs/mattermost.log
