We currently run the service as whatever user is being used for ssh'ing into the Pi and registering the service.
It might be helpful to set up a dedicated user and perhaps a group along with it to have for the application with just the permissions it needs and nothing more.
For development and even a bit beyond, the current solution is probably ok.
