Enhancement: Ability to set a default Receiver #62

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

I'd like to request the ability to create receiver apps that may substitute the
home screen (the "ready to cast") screen when a Chromecast finishes loading. I
would recommend treating it as a "default receiver" to load once the device is
ready to receive a cast. Setting / clearing it could be done through an HTTP
POST to the device.

This could lead to some interesting screensaver-like applications.

This feature would make Chromecast the go to device for electronic signage.

This would also satisfy the dashboard feature I have seen people request (a la
Google Now).

I've been looking for this functionality for a long time. This was a hard
answer to find. A $35 digital signage device that can play media on command
from all our devices is a huge win. A dashboard is what I'm looking for
specifically.

Thank you for your support of Chromecast. We've just released a major update
to the Google Cast SDK and will be closing your issue.

Take a look at http://googledevelopers.blogspot.com/ for more information.

Note - Take a look at the new styled media receiver.

I took a look at the indicated link, and saw no relevant information.

I also read the styled media receiver docs, and didn't see anything relevant
either.

This would be a very useful feature to have, could it be re-openend? or
acknowledge the 'wontfix' status?

Thanks

Google has said it will never be implemented and has pointed to the license
agreement as justification. We are using the Firefox version
(http://www.matchstick.tv/) to get the functionality we are looking for
(basically starting up the stick, getting the configuration from a webservice,
then displaying a webpage showing the status of assembly lines in a plant but
any webpage would work).
