Starting with an unpopular opinion: A data-structures-and-algorithms round is an extremely important interview stage in software engineering, especially if you haven't worked with the engineer before.

I think people overdo and overthink fitness, more times than not. Eat right, sleep right and exercise daily. Repeat for 1 year straight and then come to me for a personalized plan if it doesn't work.

I think it is just evil of banks to cold-call people repeatedly to inform their about their loan eligibility.

After a 7 year journey at Hasura, I joined Zamp today. Super thrilled to be solving unsolved fintech problems with an extremely talented and energetic team. New challenges, new tech, new people, new vibes. Hard to explain the ongoing adrenaline games.

I'm given a Macbook M3 by my new company. This computer is fuckin slick TBH. Still figuring out how Alt+Tab works tho (yeah CMD + Tab). Also figuring out the automagical transitions that happen outta nowhere while using the trackpad. Sticking to the terminal as much as possible though -- don't want to get into drag-dropping things into Applications folder. Installed docker desktop, and I feel unnecessarily weird about starting and stopping containers from the UI. Definitely sensing some bitterness after ending the 12yo relationship with Linux/Ubuntu.

I don't quite understand people who have top notes of rum or whiskey in their perfumes. Like what exactly are you trying to achieve smelling drenched in Whiskey Sour at the gym?

I'd love to talk to the person who owns SEO at LinkedIn. It blows my mind how often I find myself on LinkedIn now, all thanks to Google always putting LinkedIn profiles at the top of my search results.

The GenZ obsession with Nike sneakers is quite interesting.

Reading comments on LinkedIn is a crash-course on how to say the most obvious things in the most enthusiastic way.

My primary weakness is around structured thought. I envy people who can write their thoughts in a consumable manner as they brainstorm. Having tried all the popular tools out there, I still can't think in a way that is structured enough that I can record my ideas productively. Everything seems to just slow me down. Maybe the slowdown is worth it.

"Written in Rust" has become one of the best marketing taglines for SaaS products.

Conceptual understanding of technology is highly overrated. You can't achieve anything concrete with just a conceptual grasp of something. Like, I might conceptually understand how software infrastructure works and design great systems on paper, but heck I would never hire myself to build reliable infrastructure. Unless someone has developed a strong intuition for a niche by dealing with it and struggling at the absolute lowest level, it's foolish to trust them to handle it responsibly.

The rate at which the frontend ecosystem moves on, is just.... You stay out of touch for 3 months and there's a new library that everybody wapping about and everything else is considered boomer.

Think about the evolution of the oversized-shirts trend -- there's a lot of anthropological wisdom there.

Shadow, my 8-year-old German Shepherd, left us on June 8, 2024. He repeatedly asked for help, and we just couldn't do anything for him. I've never felt so helpless in my life. Being at the mercy of vets who mostly seemed to be just guessing was incredibly frustrating. It's heartbreaking to see a loved one in need and not be able to help them. I've never experienced the purity of love and passion that he embodied. I'll miss him terribly.

I'll never be able to remember the spelling for 'itinerary.'

I was recently asked what professional growth means. I answered it with respect to my career, but it's a question that made me think -- is there a good definition for human growth out there? A definition that is abstract enough to apply only to human beings and fundamental enough to apply to all human beings. Who knows?

Ughh what's with Google logging me out everything so often. Sad part about monopolies is that I have no other option, and nobody else can challenge them.

There hasn't been a fictional character I relate to as much as Jaime Lannister.

We can talk about Truth all we want, but it’s something one has to feel for themselves. Who knows, maybe one day -— when we’re communicating through super-intelligent machines -— we’ll finally find a common ground of knowledge, understanding, and communication. Maybe then we’ll get closer to actually speaking the Truth. Until that day, though, we’re just playing an endless game of broken telephone, hoping someone on the other end gets it.

I've completely stopped adjusting the date on my Seiko 5. Too much effort. Never buy a mechanical watch with date display -- who checks date in the watch anyway. Time is sufficient.

Anything starts becoming interesting when you know the things that you don't know about it.
