Configure settings for a default display #3719

Hi, I wish to keep my display settings whenever I connect to a new screen. So to say, I want to be able to set it as default.

For example, I always use "mirroring", and I have a preferred size. However at my work we have open office and I sit at different monitors usually. It is very annoying to set everything whenever I switch monitors. Is there a way to save my settings as default?

Hmm. This did not yet come up, but indeed, maybe configuring settings for a default display might make sense (but some things, like layouts, resolutions etc etc require a specific display with specific characteristics).

If at your workplace all displays are the same (same maker, model etc), you can try changing the display's identification method - if you set it to "Match name" or "Match vendor, model", the app should treat similar displays the same. The OS will still not do that if other details are different, but with configuration protection you can get over that.

An other alternative might be that I add a "Location" only option to identification method - this should identify all external displays as the same.
