API: Error handing for “Forecast Grid Invalid” 503 #1670

The attached error seems to indicate that forecast info isn’t available because of an error in the extended. We’d like to look into, instead, potentially providing what is there when possible, as opposed to serving an error hourly.pdf

Two questions:

Is this having an impact on our user experience? If so, screenshot?
Is there something we can do on our end to better handle this issue or is this just an API issue to track?

yes, the forecast on beta does not populate at all when there is missing data in the extended. If the API were able to still serve what is available in the grids, engineering would likely be able to make allowances to ensure the page still renders with the data that is available. I don't have a screenshot, unfortunately, but the page looks like it does with any API error.

I'm unsure. Engineering would be best for this one.

There will likely be engineering work on our side once the API behavior is changed. We'll need to add some basic logic to handle the parts of the data that are missing.

This has been prioritized as critical in the API team's backlog due to frequency and impact (based on logs)
