maintenance: Verify support for Python 3.12 #653

Hi again,

accompanying GH-652, this patch intends to "add" support for Python 3.12, by verifying it on CI (909b32fe5). Other than this main change, 731f1c7d0af also bumps the Python version on the package publishing CI task.

Hi. After a refresh two weeks ago, this PR satisfies CI now. So, you may want to consider merging it?

Sorry I created a merge conflict before getting to this PR, would you be able to rebase and then I will merge. Thanks for this great addition to the CI
