Main challenge with everything related to online conferences -> poor reach (viewership).
Majorly because people don't wanna watch hundreds of videos (out there from all the conferences altogether), they are too long & too non-digestable. Especially, from the contemporary media consumption practices.
This can be solved if online will be broken down into social media content
Read: it will take significant time to execute this & make it really work.
Good suggestions. I believe we will need most of the things you described for our IRL events as well. These virtual events will not be a separate activity, but something that will be connected to what we are doing and just extend the whole thing with another format.
A small audience is still better than no audience :) We start with the basics and gradually expand and improve.
Here's the basic kickoff:
4x a year (per quartal)
The first online summit is scheduled for Sunday 23 June, during our hackathon in Bled. We should all be present there, so we can effectively set everything up.
Question for all: What do you think about W3PN hosting some purely online events as well?
As we have IRL events mainly in Europe, this could help engage people from further away and there is already interest amongst speakers in remote presenting. Practically "W3PN Online Summit" can be quite simple - in the form of one long video-conference call that will be broadcast on livepeer and youtube. From a production standpoint, there's not much to do except put together some visuals and decide technical solution. I assume it wouldn't be behind a paywall and it would be available to everyone for free
Would anyone like to help with that?
