Meta Hood

The Grove street of the Metaverse, inspired by one of the Anarchy Arcade maps designed by the awesome SM SithLord. The original map features 7 homes and a large building.

The total map size is 84,000 triangles, but has 60 textures and materials which we would need to atlas / bake together.

Ideas

This neighborhood could be fun to explore the concept of home spaces one can decorate with their stuff. Below is an example from AArcade.

image

Anarchy Arcade is designed as 3D desktop software and these worlds run locally on your computer by default. These spaces are used for spawning your shortcuts, which can be any file that you can drag and drop into Anarchy Arcade, that then get represented as 3D objects.

Changes are persistent. Instead of folders on a 2D desktop you have rooms within worlds. There's an awesome memory palace aspect to it and because Anarchy Arcade is local-first by default there's a privacy / ownership aspect to it as well.

The tech behind the 3D shortcuts has been dubbed Meta Shortcut Format or MSF for short. The gist of it involves a couple of extra fields for the representation of shortcuts within 3D environments, and is not hard to implement into other Frontends. For ex, JanusWeb has a prototype: https://i.imgur.com/kRMr5uQ.jpg. MSF can be exported from Anarchy Arcade (which would be great if we had a 1:1 map in both AArcade and Webaverse) or generated on the fly.

Imagine being able to spawn a meme from Discord as a framed picture on the wall, or a URL to a website as an arcade cabinet to have in your home space. MSF capability in Webaverse would bring more creative and interactive possibilities into the world.

Notes

If we go with Meta Hood as it is, we could make one of the houses a hologram on The Street for connecting between worlds. We could also extract just the houses, empty the insides out, and use portals to save on model budgets and use them as parcels in a new arrangement within a neighborhood along The Street.

Leave a comment if interested or have feedback about this neighborhood, cheers!

Here's a look at the materials, the sizes vary from 32x32 to 512x512 and some are 512x1024. Total size 7.61 MB. If we could atlas these, we can hit target performance guidelines.

Just been made aware of this due it's mention in the recent art issue. Tower Unite has a UGC homespace system using polished base assets that you can then add items to. Some of these are interactable with guests you can invite. There's also things like a projector that can play youtube videos on, etc.

Sith exported 3 houses as GLB, doors need to be fixed but otherwise perfect

I don’t see how this fits in anymore. Are we writing in an explanations of why a normal neighborhood recreation exists?

Some of the interiors have interesting ideas but these GLBs are pretty far outside the current themes.

I've wrote a first draft of a short backstory. It is part of a presentation that will be ready to share soon. Hope it's ok, I really like this map and have some good ideas on how it could fit in.

Sounds cool, I can see it working if that is the case.

However in general I think we should start with theme and symbology first (what are the symbols woven into the world and what are they referencing in the narrative) and then build maps that express this. Starting with a good map is much harder to make work.
