The actual link that states this is : https://plus.nhk.jp/info/faq/#C004-0002, where it states: Also, although we have not recommended watching on Firefox, the video will not be able to play after the update after May 23rd. Please use in the recommended environment.

This is just the FAQ. The real issue is at https://plus.nhk.jp/ with https://plus.nhk.jp/info/faq/#C004-0002

It seems that NHK is making a conscious decision to drop Firefox. The issue is more understanding why.

From today, NHK+ seems not to support Firefox. Even if changing to Chrome UA, video streaming isn't started. Although they seems to use MPEG-DASH, Firefox doesn't recognize this stream even if it is downloading *.m4s.
