We appreciate your report. I was able to reproduce the issue. Ecosia is an unsupported browser:

Screenshot_18

Notes:

  1. Reproducible regardless of the status of ETP.
  2. Reproducible on the latest build of Firefox as well, see: https://github.com/webcompat/web-bugs/issues/74397
  3. Works as expected using Safari.

@denschub Ecosia seems to have a repository: https://github.com/ecosia/ios-browser, anyway we can contact them to investigate?

Tested with:

Browser/Version: Safari 15.5/ Firefox Daylight 102.0 (11640) / Ecosia 7.0.2.60 Operating System: iOS 15.5

Moving this to NeedsDiagnosis for further investigations.

We can file a bug in their repo, yeah.

softvision-raul-bucata commented 1 year ago

@vauxhall Any way we can submit the issue there? I can not see a way to submit a new issue in: https://github.com/ecosia/ios-browser or https://github.com/ecosia/

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. At the moment we have no means to summit issues or bugs to our repositories. However it is possible to send an email to iosapp at ecosia dot org.

For this issue I will bring it to the team and we will investigate further, but I can anticipate this could be a User-Agent issue. Generally when we have this kind of error messages on websites is because they don't recognise our user agent.

I see you mention there is a similar behaviour on Firefox, that makes sense as we are using a fork from their repository, and we are using a similar User-Agent too.

FYI: Both Firefox and us are using a native webview, which makes us compatible with Safari.

Will let you know if we find a way to solve it.

@vauxhall Thanks for the reply. We will advise users in future reports to submit reproducible issues via the method stated in the comment above.

@denschub Since a fork is used from the iOS Firefox repository, can this and future issues that have the same report in Firefox be closed as Duplicates?

As discussed, we will be closing similar issues that are reproducible in both Firefox and Ecosia as a Duplicate in favor of Firefox, since they run on the same repository.
