www.linkedin.com - Closing an opened post by clicking outside the pop-up selects all items on the page #118201

URL: https://www.linkedin.com/feed/

Browser / Version: Firefox 109.0 Operating System: Windows 10 Tested Another Browser: Yes Other

Problem type: Something else Description: Text selection is triggered without holding the left mouse button Steps to Reproduce: Since a couple of weeks, I notice this weird behavior where text on the LinkedIn timeline gets randomly selected (following my mouse cursor) whenever I've watched the reactions on a post. I don't hold the left mouse button, but still, after closing the reactions pop-up, text gets selected.

-- Steps:

  1. Click the link below a random post to see reactions (you know, the “You and 84 others”).
  2. Close the pop-up window that shows the number of (different types of) reactions.

-- Actual behavior: After closing the window, whenever the mouse is moved, text on the page gets selected beneath.

-- Expected behavior: No text is selected.

I've disabled uBlock Origin, to no effect. I've started Firefox in "safe mode” to disable extensions, but the problem persists. I've tried the same thing in Firefox 110 bèta and 111 Nightly (no add-ons installed): same problem. I've opened LinkedIn in Vivaldi: there, the problem doesn't occur.

We appreciate your report. I was not able to reproduce the issue:

https://user-images.githubusercontent.com/75027050/218777736-25f89764-889c-4526-930b-f38e122d580b.mp4

Tested with:

Browser / Version: Firefox Release 109.0.1 (64-bit) Operating System: Windows 10 PRO x64

Suggestion: Try clearing cache/data/cookies, disabling add-ons and Ad-blocker (if available) and extensions or use a clean profile, and check again? If there are any changes made to the default settings of the browser (e.g. in about:config) please revert to the default settings and try again. Also, have the required cookies been accepted for this page?

Hi @softvision-raul-bucata, thanks for your test! In the meantime, I've tried most of the things you suggested, but to no avail. Disabling all add-ons, using Nightly (which has a different profile folder), accepting or refusing non-essential cookies ... doesn't change a thing.

Seeing your video capture, I discovered that when I close the pop-up using the "X" button, the problem doesn't occur. However, when I close it by clicking outside of the pop-up window, text gets selected.

Any chance you could try that last scenario for me, even when this issue was closed? Thanks in advance!

@rubcap Thanks for the extra info. I was able to reproduce the issue following your steps to reproduce:

https://user-images.githubusercontent.com/75027050/223756451-dd071f93-baa6-47ff-b4ba-9f212b9f16ed.mp4

Tested with:

Browser / Version: Firefox Release 110.0.1 (64-bit)/ Firefox Nightly 112.0a1 (2023-03-07) (64-bit) Operating System: Windows 10 PRO x64

Notes:

  1. Reproducible regardless of the status of ETP.
  2. Reproducible on the latest build of Firefox Nightly and Release.
  3. Works as expected using Chrome.

Moving this to NeedsDiagnosis for further investigations.

Hi there, any update on this issue? Seems like a fairly important problem if more Firefox users encounter this on a popular site like LinkedIn?

Thanks for your valuable work!

PS. The video in the post above doesn't seem to work for me.
