Problem type: Something else Description: Payment with Klarna + BankID popup flow is broken Steps to Reproduce: In the payment flow with Klarna there's a step to open a popup to authenticate with BankID. Firefox asks to allow opening the popup, but allowing the popup only opens about:blank. Unsure if BankID opened or not, but the payment didn't go through and I was left with a blank page in Firefox. After going back and trying a few times it works, maybe Firefox remembers that it's OK to open popups without asking and then the payment flow works, but this is quite annoying (especially with the uncertainty of whether the order went through after authenticating the payment).

This issue affects more sites that use Klarna (not sure which ones, maybe all of them?). Klarna is a very commonly used payment solution in Sweden for ecommerce.

https://docs.klarna.com/klarna-checkout/browser-support/ doesn't list Firefox (any OS). :-/

Thanks for the report, Simon. Unfortunately, I'm unable to test this issue on my own because it involves payments and I do not have a Klarna account. Are you using any ad-ons? Have you tested on Firefox Nightly by any chance?

Suggestions: • Clear cache/data/cookies, disable Ad-blocker (if available), or use a clean profile and check again • If there are any changes made to the default settings of the browser (e.g. in about:config), please revert to the default settings

Video showing reproduction steps. The issue is indeed that the popup is blocked and Firefox asks to open it, but then the parent page fails to update the popup's document (from about:blank to something else). The user can switch the tab back and click a button and then switch tabs back. But the UX is clearly broken.

I managed to reproduce this issue using random a location from Sweden and an online number:

Tested on: • Browser / Version: Firefox Nightly 116.0a1-20230619093216 / Firefox Release 114.0.1-20230608214645 / Chrome 114.0.5735.57 • Operating System: Google Pixel 5 (Android 13) - 1080 x 2340 pixels, 19.5:9 ratio (~432 ppi density)

Notes:

  1. Reproducible on both Firefox Release and Nightly
  2. Not reproducible on Chrome
