thebuddhaswords.net - Pop-up for dictionary entries is misaligned for certain words #133751

Open BBBalls opened 7 months ago

BBBalls commented 7 months ago

URL: https://thebuddhaswords.net/home/index.html

Browser / Version: Firefox 123.0 Operating System: Linux Tested Another Browser: Yes Other

Problem type: Design is broken Description: Items are misaligned Steps to Reproduce: This site provides translations of Pali texts. After navigating to a translated text, there is a toggle to show the text of the original Pali in the top right corner. When the Pali text is visible as new column, moving the cursor over a Pali word produces a text pop-up box that has a dictionary entry. In Firefox, these pop-up boxes behave in a manner that is inconsistent with what is intended to occur. The pop-up box should always appear over the Pali text a fixed distance from the right side of the Pali column. In Firefox, the pop-up text box will appear over the translated text column, if the cursor is over the first word of a line, and the pop-up width is sufficiently wide.

We appreciate your report. I was able to reproduce the issue by following the steps to reproduce. The dictionary pop-up for certain words is displayed on the left side of the page, in the translated English version:

https://github.com/webcompat/web-bugs/assets/75027050/e297110e-12d6-4bb5-a273-0f7fc06facd7

Tested with:

Browser / Version: Firefox Release 123.0 (64-bit)/ Firefox Nightly 125.0a1 (2024-02-22) (64-bit) /Chrome Version 122.0.6261.58 (Official Build) (64-bit) Operating System: Windows 10 PRO x64 Operating System: Ubuntu 22.4 LTS x64

Notes:

  1. Reproducible regardless of the status of ETP.
  2. Reproducible on the latest build of Firefox Nightly and Release.
  3. Works as expected using Chrome.

Moving this to NeedsDiagnosis for further investigations.
