translate.google.com - Voice input is not supported on Firefox #68858

Browser / Version: Firefox 88.0 Operating System: Linux Tested Another Browser: Yes Edge

Problem type: Video or audio doesn't play Description: There is no audio Steps to Reproduce: Simply to say that translate.google.com has not supporting with Firefox browser and Opera browser on translate to speech. Many google services work problematically with Firefox browser and do not respond to what is desired! Google Translate doesn't permission to record on Firefox For example this https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B2-tZcqxaeq4OVdkVHRiOXdhTlU doesn't play on Firefox

Thanks for the report, I was able to reproduce the issue. image

Note: The issue is not reproducible on Chrome. image

Tested with: Browser / Version: Firefox Nightly 89.0a1 (2021-03-28) Operating System: Windows 10 Pro

Moving to Needsdiagnosis for further investigation.

Firefox will need to support WebSpeech recognition for this feature to work, so this is effectively a duplicate of bz1248897.

Yes, WebSpeech support is being developed in Firefox. In fact it's partly working as of bug 1244460, though as I understand it, it's a complicated situation, because web the standard is being revised (and maybe even redesigned, I'm no longer certain of its status).

As such I think that while it's possible to turn on web speech using about:config settings, it might not work yet on web sites (especially ones which use the webkitSpeechRecognition API).
