Describe key purpose and differences with other similar OS

I'm all for something new, opinionated, with new kernel and slim but key differences and objectives should be described and documented compared to:

• coreos/flatcar
• k3OS
• talos

This is surely something to take into consideration once we get together with the design specs.

Would you mind summarizing your experience with those (if any) and what you find important in having ?

As you said this is going to be more of a later thing. once you and the community define the specs and the purpose of wbk it will become clearer how it compares to others

I think it would be important to have:

• release channels (edge, alpha, beta and stable)
• as much as possible of the filesystem in read-only
• some sort of init configuration system like cloud-init or ignition (ignition rocks, even tho goes against some immutability concerns)
• all system components as containers
• Talos doesn't even have SSH nor a Console in favor of a GRPC API which is in line with "API everything"
