graph idea #15

Here's an idea for a graph, it has year along the X-axis and the % of AEVs to the total population (this would be better as % of all vehicles if we can do that) Then each state is represented by a line. I color coded these so that each region of the U.S. has a color. (Pacific states, west, southwest, midwest, mid-atlantic, northeast, south) Then if you select a state on the map, it would be cool if it could brush it so that that line was highlighted (or all the other ones were made much dimmer). That way, the user could see where the selected state fits in with the others and if it is following the trend.

Here is my idea for the graph. I created two types of visualization, one is map and the other is stacked bar graph. I think it would be good to have both of them since they show the same data in different context. For the filters of fuel type, I was wondering if we can have icons that represent various fuel types. screen shot 2014-11-17 at 8 11 20 pm

Here's another one- a box-and-whisker plot displaying the amount (in gasoline-gallon equivalents) of each type of fuel consumed, with each dot representing a state. The left-hand one has all values and the right-hand one has the highest values excluded, to give a better view. The year control is connected to both plots so that both change as you page through the years. This was made using the larger data set that we found online. screen shot 2014-11-19 at 11 38 37 am
