Stolen logo #291

Hi,

The logo for this project is a very slightly modified version of logo from the waterfox web browser.

Here is the waterfox logo: image

And the webui logo: image

I imagine this was done naively or accidentally rather than maliciously, so I thought an issue was the best way to raise this.

PS. Here is the commit in which it was added: https://github.com/webui-dev/webui/commit/4d4abe8f2abb4a88fd83760977a02d37909720a8

@hassandraga / @webui-dev

It has come to my attention that you are currently using a modified version of the Waterfox logo as your own project's logo. While I appreciate you may have been inspired by the Waterfox brand, directly taking and altering our logo unfortunately crosses a line.

Waterfox has rights and trademarks associated with its logo, and your use of a nearly identical mark, even if recolored or resized, could constitute infringement. I know this may not have been your intention, but I kindly request that you cease use of the current logo and rebrand with an original design to avoid any legal issues.

I believe coming up with your own unique logo will be beneficial for establishing your distinct identity in the marketplace. If you have any questions about how to go about creating a logo that does not conflict with Waterfox's marks, please let us know. I hope to resolve this amicably. Please confirm within the next 7 days that you will discontinue use of the modified Waterfox logo. I appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

Regards, Alex

Hey @MrAlex94,

I sincerely apologize for using your trademark logo on this GitHub project. This was an oversight on my part. I assure you that I will promptly replace the logo with an original design that does not infringe upon your rights.

Thank you for bringing this to my attention, and I appreciate your understanding.

It appears you were made aware of this being the Waterfox logo in May 2023.

Thank you for your understanding and commitment to promptly replace the infringing logo. However, I noticed the ticket about this issue was closed without the logo actually being changed yet.

So this can be resolved, I kindly ask that you provide a specific timeline for the new non-infringing logo to be implemented, and keep the ticket open until completion. Given you have been aware of the need to rebrand since May 2023, I suggest this be done within the next 2 weeks at most.

As I raised the issue, I feel a degree of responsibility to contribute to a solution. While I don't think there necessarily needs to be a replacement before the current logo is dropped, I thought I'd offer up a very basic temporary alternative that could be used until a proper logo is designed/chosen.

Here's a very simple W logo with a gradient that evokes the same feeling as the current one:
