Refractor fill function (Ok) #2

Sorry for the last pull request, Travis CI wasn't working and me neither : ). Anyways, the new fill function should be marginally quicker and arguably more maintainable.

Don't hesitate if you have any remarks or question about the change, I'm glad you like it
