Most commentary in second commit along with profiling numbers. tl;dr is take a little hit in how things look (pretty much just labels which still look OK: http://fuuzetsu.co.uk/images/1482370020.png), point fingers at others (SVGFont) and make some temporary work-arounds for big time+space improvement.
