5 years ago @jennpb interestingly, things like poster, aren't what we use as work types. Not sure if that's a genre, the same way "woodblock" is
We could use our official mat type list - but wonder if there's a controlled vocab of genres and subjects too, which we could use for the same analysis to look at automatic faceting, or faceting suggestions?

Woodblock, poster, lithograph, poster .... all are genres.
But can't we just query against our own API? We know what genres are in the API, so could we match the search logs against that?

5 years ago @harrisonpim and I have been talking about how we might build in synonyms for this too (we will always only have 1 canonical word though).
This would also happen with things like plurals, where we could chose either plural / singular and make sure we include the plural...
☝️ we were talking about that from the research that was done on work type, and wondering if there will just always be a discrepancy with some things, especially geographically and culturally, so we could cater for all, instead of refining one.
On a side note, it would also see how synonyms could be surfaced for words like Hottentot, where "Khoikhoi" might be more appropriate (👈 this is an uneducated guess and just an fabricated example) without losing that they were associated at some stage too.

5 years ago I believe those codes refer to which schema the term comes from, but I don't know what the abbreviations actually stand for. That's a question for Collections Information.
