Revise slideshow #4

The slideshow on the front page should take up less space (vertical dimension is huge right now), and display (for example) figures from faculty-contributed papers.

Maybe replace slideshow with a sidebar and two columns format?

I restored the slideshow carousel but I drastically reduced the vertical size of the current image (photo of University Hill, UWO). We need more images. This should serve as an "announcements" component of the page that links to blog posts - maybe display most recent four entries in blog.
