@i108 @trekdemo require 'rails/all' in spec_helper.rb solved this for us on Rails 5

@nblumoe That seems like overkill, a require 'rails' got me past this initial error (though I'm working through other ones)

Strangely I resolved such issue with my app by adding json to Gemfile. See https://github.com/bundler/bundler/issues/5492#issuecomment-322827729

Same error here since I upgraded to Rails 5.1 /.rvm/gems/ruby-2.4.2/gems/railties-5.1.4/lib/rails/commands/server/server_command.rb:134:inblock in perform': undefined method application' for Thor::Rails:Module (NoMethodError)

Still looking for a fix. I have the error with at least thor 0.19.1 and 0.19.4.

@akostadinov thanks, adding json to Gemfile works for me on clean Fedora 27 install. Installing json with gem install doesnt seem to work without Gemfile edit.
