pglaf converter #51

It may not be a ppgen issue...

I have a source file that converts well (ver 3.39) into html and txt formats. The html file passes the W3 and Tidy tests. But ebookmaker produces a file describing many errors (seems multiple of the same).

After spendinh one hour trying to find '\udcc3' in the html file, or otherwise trying to understand what is wrong, I give up.

pglaf output file is available.

Very strange indeed. I downloaded the zip file from pglaf, the cache that you provided, and ran it from my computer. Same error message! I’ll try to run it from another computer.

What fields are you filling in on the submission screen, and with what values? Perhaps there's something wrong with that input. Just try leaving them blank.

Or, rather than blank, leave them as their default values.

Probably completely off track, but I notice the failure is in add dublin core, so possibly it's to do with the title/author?

My post crossed with Walts - both came to the same idea. Perhaps you are including an accented character in the title/author/etc and it is being misinterpreted as utf8?

I've just tried resubmitting to epubmaker with "LÉGENDES DÉMOCRATIQUES" as the title and got the errors Denis got

I’ll be darned!

Cause of the issue: in the pglaf page, for the ebook title, I wrote “Légendes démocratiques du nord” since this is a French book. The accented characters are the cause. Works fine if the title is “Legendes democratiques du nord”, which will appear as the actual title on an ereader… How does PG make the epub and mobi versions for French books? I’ll get some French books from PG when I have 30 minutes. Thanks for your help,

I suggest you write to Marcello about that, as it sounds like a bug of some kind to me.

He's the PG webmaster and the guy responsible for ebookmaker and for that web site.
