voltage scaling error when using house monitor #30

Closed whaleygeek closed 8 years ago

whaleygeek commented 8 years ago

When using the house monitor, the voltage is reported as about 4.98 Volts

It is fitted with 3 AA batteries. Nominal cell voltage would be 4.5V, it is possible that cell voltage is slightly higher, or that the reading is slightly inaccurate. Will test with a programmable power supply later to check whether varying the battery supply voltage varies the reported voltage, to confirm this.

I spoke to someone at Energenie about this. The (default) batteries that came with my device are known to self discharge quite quickly (relatively speaking), especially if the device has been in stock for a long time. The suggestion is to try again with brand new Duracell batteries and see what the readings are.

Tested this with a DVM on the batteries in the compartment, the voltage reading is correct (roughly correct, within the accuracy we would expect of the report), as the batteries are not brand new, and may have self discharged a bit before use.
