At some point I want to push all this functionality into a C library, with a Python ctypes wrapper, so that the messaging and communications handling can be used in any language including Scratch, not just Python.

OpenHEMS (actually now OpenThings) will stay in Python. Work is ongoing to push the radio interface into C.
