Equipment generation on landing #48

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Land repeatedly on a world in rapid succession (such as the alien probe
in the previous issue, NO fuel cost! Or a corrosive atmo world you want to
explore at low equipment cost)
2. You will rapidly see that extra equipment is being generated to find on
the world
3. Keep for yourself or sell to some colonists for much lucre

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Not quite so much item generation, maybe it should be tied to how long it
has been since you Last landed not how many times you have done so!

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
0.1.8

What?! No That's not a bug! That's a feature. I disagree. I would think that
in any
world we'd find new stuff with new visits. While a game should be complicated,
it
should not necessarily be harder than necessary every time. If the pilot skill
is
high enough, seems reasonable to me that lifting and landing would expend less.

Just commenting.

I'm not saying that there shouldn't be new equipment when you revisit the
world but
right now it looks like it is a new set of equipment (not one item, but a pile
however many that is) on EVERY landing even if you just landed and immediately
took
off again.

To me that is much to much you could just land and takeoff repeatedly and sell
the
new items to colonists and make your money (if you choose a benign world, and
even
more so if it has little traversabal(sp?) terrain (i.e. mostly deep water with a
little island) as you will just land within sight of the new equipment)

My proposition was that the chance of item generation on landing is tied to how
long
ago you last landed on the world not how often you land there.

Ah. I see. I understand what you are getting at. Though, first one must find the
colonist to sell to... ;)

Oh yes... It always seems to be feast or famine for an colonists.
(But never when you want them ;p)

FYI recently I have the feeling this might also affect caves as well.

I can confirm that it affects items in caves as well. Attached is a save where
you
can find an item in the cave and then exit to find an item on the surface.
Reentering the cave, there is a new item there, ad infinitum.
