Black Bruise Mechanics #56

Black Bruise is a main hand fist weapon from Icecrown Citadel with a unique proc. Let's see how it works, with our expectations set by some historical sources.

Given it's an "Equip" proc, we expect the buff to be triggered by attacks from both hands, increasing uptime. This behaviour is being tracked with other "Equip" procs in this issue here.

As a baseline for our expectations, this Wowhead Comment sums it up well:

By 20394 (6,171 – 3·20·32) on 2010/01/06 (Patch 3.3.0)
I got this weapon tonight, and was VERY excited about sitting down and testing it out on the dummies to see how it stands up compared to my 258 ToGC weapons. I'm sure many of you have questions regarding this weapon, so let me state a few things about it: The weapon proc is NOT affected by CoE/Ebon etc. The weapon proc is only indirectly affected by Sunder/Expose (procs off base damage remember?) The weapon proc does NOT work off Flametongue attacks. The weapon proc DOES work on Stormstrike and Lava Lash The weapon proc CAN NOT critical hit. The weapon proc does NOT benefit from the shaman t10 2 piece bonus damage.

Thanks to a PTR log from Cookie on September 28th with a Normal Black Bruise, we can confirm all the damage characteristics outlined above.

Magic Damage Debuff: This specific trash fight included a Necrotic Touch pre and post magic damage debuff, and we get exactly 9% post mitigation pre and post debuff.

Over the entire log there are 0 instances of a Necrotic Touch crit out of 4391 damage instances, so I think it's safe to say it is unable to crit.
