user preference list not being sorted correctly - iOS #53

There's some issue with the user preference list sorting because currently it's not sorting correctly. Haven't identified exact bug yet. Will need to step through.

issue #49 could be causing this error to occur with preferences not getting picked up.

this was related to the #51 algorithm improvement issue.
