In CKAN:

APIs for read datasets (i.e.: metadata APIs)
- always available
APIs for reading data (i.e: datastore API)
- not always available per instance
- not always available per dataset - tabular data only
- In some cases might be able to work around this by reading for example a CSV file directly
Documents of non-tabular data
- Generally not indexed by CKAN
Pages of generic content
- Not indexed by CKAN
