doesn't switch back on properly on Nexus One

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Switch data connection off for some time (e.g. 30min)
2. Switch back on

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Data connection via GPRS / 3G should work again. - EDGE (in my case, I've
disabled 3G generally) is displayed as online in the status bar. However,
no data transfer is possible.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Nexus One / Firmware v.2.1-update1
APNDroid: Latest version from Android Market

Please provide any additional information below.
Manually switching between valid / invalid APN in the settings menu works fine.

I have exactly the same problem - there is no data connection after switching 
on.
Data connection works only after soft reboot.

Phone: Nexus One with the oficial firmware 2.1-update1
APNDroid: Latest version from the Android Market

Same here in Italy with Nexus One and TIM Ibox connection. I have to reboot 
after 
Switch back ON to make the connection REALLY on.
All works fine manually switching between correct/uncorrect APN in the settings 
menu 
and without reboot the Nexus.
PS: the SAME problem happens with "Toggle Data" widget.

It seems it is Android problem rather APNDroid problem.

After long trying of an access point OS gives up and marks it as "bad". I 
suppose so.
Or some kind of pppd issue.

r14 does not work also.

"E" appears, but only downlink (down arrow) blinks. Uplink (up arrow) never 
shows
until reboot.

You know, HTC Hero (HTC Sense) also have built-in possibility to disable 
internet
access. Without changing APN.
And it also does not reconnect. It seems it's common problem for Android 
devices, it
does not depend on Nexus or something like that.

And if APN is incorrent, does device try to reconnect to wrong APN constantly?

First you need to turn on APNDroid, then you may turn off Wi-Fi. Then it will 
use
GPRS, otherwise won't.

I just tried the following sequence:
1) With APN disabled by APNdroid, browse web over Wi-Fi.
2) Turn down Wi-Fi, try to browse web, get "unreachable" error.
3) Turn APN on using APNdroid, 3G instantly turns on and works correctly.

It sometimes fails to start, though. I have not been able to isolate any 
sequence of events that would make it 
work or not work.

Same here (on my nexus one). Can't re-connect to internet after turning off 
wifi even
3G icon appears in taskbar.

I've heard that other applications like Toggle Data do not rename APNs, instead 
they 
change the APN type from default or "mms" to "-" and then restore it back. It 
seems to 
work better than APN renaming and may help to solve this problem.

this is actually DNS and most probably pppd's problem. In described conditions 
It 
doesn't update DNS'es to GPRS/3G ones. However, trick with probing access when 
WiFi and 
APN toggled OFF and only after that toggling APN on works for me (at least once 
:))

just saying that I can't reproduce

enabling data using apndroid or QuickSetting. I used ur work ard under 
"Additional 
info", unfortunately no quick shortcut to that setting page, which means i have 
to 
click down 4 pages to get to the APNs. =)

Here are some findings that might be useful?

If APN is on and before switching on/off Wifi, the problem is much less likely 
to
occur. But if Wifi is being switch on/off when APN is off, then the problem 
would occur.

I love apndroid, but it doesn't properly turn back on the data access for me on 
my
Nexus One. As a workaround, instead of using apndroid, I ended up creating 
another
fake APN and if I want to turn off data, I just switch to it. Turning data back 
on by
switching back to the proper APN seems to work every time for me. Is there a way
apndroid could mimic this behavior?

I wrote a simple app that calls the APN settings configuration dialog on my 
device to
make switching APNs easier. If anyone is struggling with this bug as well, and 
wants
to use my hack, here's a link to what I wrote:

@martin.adamek What you are saying is strange. Are you sure you have selected 
the
fake APN? (indicated with a green dot on the right beside the name) It works
perfectly on mine. My Nexus One does not automatically select the working APN 
when I
have the non-working APN selected.

I do exactly the same thing with fake APN :) 
To force Nexus One to not to switch to the working APN you have to set fake 
APN's type 
as "default".

time, but I didn't see this reconnect problem so far (doesn't mean it's not 
there). Other than that, we have also 
new way of turning data on/off without modifiing APNs that could be ready to 
test in few days. With this method 
and short testing I didn't see this problem either (but personnally I think it

That's cool. I didn't see a screen shot, but on Froyo I see it under Menu | 
Settings | 
Wireless & Networks | Mobile Networks | Data enabled. By the way, the app & 
idea I 
posted still works well under Android 2.2 on my Nexus One.
