Whiteout cannot pass the email address verification with Gmail #410

I can't get Whiteout set up on my Android phone (OnePlus One).

I am using my Gmail account with Google Sign In. During the email address verification I repeatedly get this message in red letters:

"IMAP connection encountered an error! Error: Unexpected section start char [ at position 8".

And it doesn't continue beyond this point. I've tried googling the error but I get no results.
