[Packs] Form pack repository; open source community #53

This would be my dream...

As I think about it, it seems as if Extender has the potential to be REALLY
big! To overwrite jumplists, to localize for other countries (especially
Germany, they seem to be the biggest audience,) and to maintain an online
repository for jumplist packs. I'd love to set all this up, but it'd take
me some time. I honestly don't have that much, considering my college major
is _totally different._

Depends on the website, first off. That needs to be done. Following that, I
need to:

1. Clean up the darn code
2. Recruit coders, especially to squash bugs, streamline the app, and find
out how to overwrite jumplists and localize. And make an open source
alternative to WAPICodepack
3. Make a forum, as well as people willing to maintain it

Wonder how long this'll take.

I think this tool is really the thing I was awaiting since I began using
Windows 7 (the first betas). Really
useful, love it. I agree with you, it has a great potential.

Try to begin centralizing everything related in one place, especially the
.jlps; for instance create a dedicated
wikipage; later, make users able to upload their own .jlp

Once I finish making my jumplists (some using shortcuts, some using "advanced"
ahk (WM_ messages, for instance),
some using Sikuli scripts (http://sikuli.org/ - for instance Flash buttons
inside of Adobe AIR apps); for Adobe
CS4, for VLC, for TweetDeck, Songbird, FeedDemon, etc..), I hope I'll be able
to submit them, thus enlarging your
(by then running, I hope!) repository

Thanks for your comments :) I'm intrigued by the numerous jumplists you'll be
making!
I'm happy to make this tool.

Yes, a centralized webpage is one of my goals. The JLP repository should be
integrated fully with MediaWiki, which my work-in-progress site is based on.
My plan for uploading JLPs is to have an easy-to-use form, where users can fill
in
info, descriptions, etc. That form posts a page on the repository for people to
download.

I'm having trouble deciding if Extender is large enough to justify a Wiki,
though?
I'm wondering if the audience is too small to be worth it.

All packs enhancements need to make 1.0. I'm merging this with "open source
community" just out of laziness, but also because I think they're the same
issue.

Packs look as if they should have their own page, and then be listed by
Software in a bigger "Software Category" page. I'm not sure how softwares
should be listed on the "Category" pages, but it's a start.

Old pack page from, like, April: http://jumplist.gsdn-media.com/site/Notepad_1
