We usually take a couple of pictures at our events and since @SrishtiG recently uploaded pictures of the recent Toronto meetup and WiCS orientation, it would be cool to have selected photos on our website instead of just Facebook/Twitter because

Not quite sure if there are any technical constraints here @ehashman @fboxwala @evykassirer?

ehashman commented 8 years ago

@arshiamufti: we have blog posts that have had photos before: http://wics.uwaterloo.ca/2015/01/office-hours/

If the plan is do to something more like a photo gallery, that's a bit more constrained. We'd need to find a suitable pelican plugin capable of displaying lots of photos so we don't have to hand-code that when we regenerate the site. This has been something I've been looking for... for at least a year. I've generally heard bad things about the existing gallery plugins. It would be a good research project for someone willing to tackle this.

hmm we also could upload them on flickr for now as a quick fix and work on this in the meantime? I could look into plugins.

What do people think of creating a WiCS Flickr/photobucket?

evykassirer commented 7 years ago

++

We'd have to update our policy, as anything updated to Flickr/Photobucket would be subject to their privacy policy. Not it against it though.

evykassirer commented 7 years ago

What in our photo policy would be in conflict with Flick/Photobucket's policies?

"Note: While we do our best to maintain control of the photos we take, we cannot guarantee that photos will not be stolen/used by other organizations." seems to cover any of that

annalorimer commented 7 years ago

It's not that they would conflict, it's that we need to be as transparent as possible.

We would be explicitly putting these photos in the control of a corporation, which is entirely different legally from our disclaimer.

yeah okay that makes sense
