3 years ago Michael confirmed that a) images should be preserved in emails and that b) the emails should not have been removed. Closing for now, but we will watch the headers/footers more closely and document which ones have graphics
We had a link to an img in all of our email templates, that source code has mysteriously disappeared. The text changes persist so I don't believe that the whole template was reset, just the images were removed.
