Unable to update Mollify 1.8.6.1 #344

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

I can't update my mollify to 1.8.6.1 by just copy/paste the "index.html" and
"configuration.php" to their corresponding locations.

It works when i copy/paste mollify 1.8.6.1 files over my old installation and
then add the configuration.php and index.html file.

It doesen't work when i delete all the files, copy mollify 1.8.6.1 files and
adding my old configuration index.html and configuration.php.

It shows me white blank page and nothing else.

So something has changed a lot in new mollify that my old configuration seems
to be missing. I would like to know what that is? What could affect my settings?

If you are updating from 1.8.6, you can simply copy folder "Share" from the
backend/plugins. This is the only difference in 1.8.6.1.

I'll check if there's some error in the package, but you can always check the
PHP error log to see why it shows blank page.

No, not update Mollify FROM 1.8.6.1 but unable to update mollify TO 1.8.6.1.
There are some significant differences when i compare it with my last version
1.8.5.3.
So basically i can't update FROM 1.8.5.3 TO 1.8.6.1 normally, like i described
above.

I managed to get it so far, that it get's the log in screen and i can log in.
Now there are other issues.
I can upload a file named, for example, "jõulud.xls", it uploads normally, all
the letters are there, but when i click on it, i can't get the Action window to
pop up, it says "Unknown Error". So basically i can't do anything with the file
uploaded that way which has "bad letters" in it.

If i keep my old installation and copy/paste the new installation over it and
later just add the old index.html and configuration.php files then that error
does not occur. So something has to be different with Mollify, not with the
configuration.php or index.html. I wouldn't mind changing my configuration of
these files, i would just like to know what do i have to change?

People using my server with Mollify script are getting rather upset that
nothing is working well or with bugs. I may need to consider buying one of the
commercial scripts, do you have anything good to recommend?

Ok, i narrowed it down. The bug seems to be in "FileViewerEditor". I couldn't
open other files as well which had the extensions in FileViewerEditor. When i
disabled the plugin, everything was working fine.
Trying to understand whats going on, any help would be appreciated.

I'm sorry if you are not satisfied, you are free to choose some other script.

But if you had read the change log
(http://code.google.com/p/mollify/wiki/ChangeLog), it says that
FileViewerPlugin has been renamed in version 1.8.2. Or had you even read the
error log, you could have solved this in 5 min.

Alright, never mind, i just forgot that i needed to add the FileViewerEditor
plugin sub-plugins again, like zoho, since these are not included in the full
update. These caused all the problems. Also i need to have the
"convert_filenames" => "CP1252",
activated in order for everything to work properly.

About the errorlog, i would read it, but unfortunately there are some issues
with it, i can't seem to enable the logs. Many people have observed this issue
with my server and can't figure out why i don't see any logs. Under windows
it's different. That's why it's hard for me to solve these problems, I'm like
blindfolded and have to solve problems with trial and error all the time. I
could have told you that, but i figured it would be easier to ask you if there
were any big changes and exactly where, I'm sorry if it offended you.

I don't mind the questions, really. I've answered every single question and
issue there has been, with a manner that makes many commercial support come
second. So I'm trying, really am.

Offended is not the right word, frustrated might be more correct. I'm doing
this on my own with no help from anyone, on my free time (and there is not
much), and for free. (Sure there is commercial license, but somehow only very
very few thinks their business is commercial, so in practice this is all for
free).

What I'd really like to get in return is some kind of appreciation, perhaps
some understanding that some things may not be perfect (but like I said, I'm
doing my best), but most importantly I'd like to see constructive attitude,
maybe even some kind of efforts of giving out the helping hand. Unfortunately
every now and then there are users who don't have these, expect everything here
and now, for free of course, complaining that nothing works, why don't you do
this and that, if you don't do this and that I'll choose some other product and
so on. These are the cases that make thinking if there is any point in this
open source project.

Not saying your intention was this, just pointing out my perspective.

I completely understand your perspective. I should mention that when i said
people are using my server, your script and that i may need to consider some
commercial ones then it was not meant as a threatening sentence or that your
script is any bad. I too am thinking about the people using my server and I'm
doing my best to keep them happy. So as you see, in my perspective, this was
not aimed for you at all, i was just worried about people using my server.

I honestly, sincerely think you are doing a great job and the script is really
really good. I have gone through bazillion scripts like yours, none of them i
ended up using in live server. All of them had something missing or were just
not good enough. I decided to use yours, you can't imagine how happy i was and
still am that i found this script of yours.
I know things are not perfect, your project is very close to that though.

I'm personally not so good at all when it comes to writing PHP and those kind
of scripts in general. I am trying to help out projects like this as much as i
can and as much as my current knowledge let's me. So far, in other free
projects across the web, i have only been able to help them with translations,
report bugs/ideas as much as i can etc. I know it is all very hard work,
especially when done alone.
I have seen quite many great projects die (lack of developers), i hope this
don't happen to yours.

If you have anything in mind that i might be able to help you with, please ask.
I will continue to use your script, i really love it, it's simple to use and
has all the things i need for my server. I just hope my intelligence (as much
as there is of it) won't come in way about configuring Mollify, making it run
properly etc.

Next time I'll try to figure things out in more detail (and trying harder to
make it work myself) before running to ask from you. The current issue was
quite silly, i simply forgot that some of the plugin sub-plugins are not there.
And my issues with not seeing the error log doesn't make things more easier.

P.S Already recommended your script to a friend of mine who was also searching
for a script like this, he is also happy and is surprised that this is not a
featured script around the web.

Hoping that whatever negative thoughts you have/had about me are hopefully now
less negative. Just the lack of my knowledge causes some/most of these
discussions.

Thank you for your kind words, I really do appreciate. And no hard feelings,
honestly. This was perhaps just the place to express the two-folded feelings I
have for this project. This has grown quite big project, and it is very
important for me. It is sometimes frustrating how little time I have for this,
and occasionally the input seems like all the effort is for nothing.

But I doubt I will abandon this project, I have quite some ideas for it. Thanks
again.
