Zotero thinks all my linked files are in the zotero tree instead of my own directory #52

Switched from windows to linux and can't get zotero to look at the right directory.

Linked attachment base directory is my PATH.

Zotmoov move to is PATH

Zotmoov source is PATH

What am I missing? I need all of my links to be detected to that one PATH.

If I right click attach a new file, Zotmoov auto attaches the last opened pdf and adds the correct name. That means it is the wrong file renamed.

On the original computer/OS, were the PDF attachments linked files ? If not, the Zotero database (synced or copied from that computer/OS) still thinks those files are under Zotero\storage. If so, you would need to right-click Move Selected to Directory those files to your linked files folder (using Zotmoov).

If they were linked files on the old OS but were at a different linked files folder path, setting the Linked Attachment Base Directory in Zotero settings to their current path in the new OS should allow Zotero to find them in the new OS.

In any case, the error message you get from Zotero when you try to open a PDF in your new OS should tell you where Zotero thinks the file should be. That's often the clue to resolving linked file path issues.

The Source Folder for Attaching New Files is for a special, less common operation - adding a PDF downloaded without using the Zotero web connector (or saved from an email for example). That path is set to another folder, usually your regular Downloads folder. For that operation only, you use right-click Attach New File.

They were linked via zotfile to one folder. On the new OS Zotero though they were linked in the zotero file storage tree not the zotfile storage folder.

I never got an error message sadly. I did right click and try to link them in the right location via zotmoov. The only action it did was link the most recent pdf in the entire folder regardless of name to the selected item, renaming it according to the item.

I could not get Zotmoov to work but I was able to get Zotero 5, get Zotfile to rerecognize the folder, then upgrade to 7. So, unsolved via Zotmoov but I did figure out a work around.

Thanks for your help. I will try your advice in the future when I need it again! Maybe if I setup my laptop it will be needed.
