Support AC3 Passthrough Audio #192

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Try to cast an MKV with AC3 audio

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
expected: I can hear the audio
actual: No audio is output

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
The latest; Linux

Please provide any additional information below.

The Chromecast has the support for AC3 passthrough, the Netflix app clearly
takes advantage of it, but the Chrome process running on the Chromecast seems
incapable of doing so.

A "bug" in my mind, but since it's not listed on the Supported Codecs, I'm
assuming this is an Enhancements.

Thanks for considering.

Hello, sorry for my English
I have a similar problem. The configurations is Chromecast->AVR->TV. When I try
to watch a movie with Netflix and 5.1 Dolby Digital + track is available, there
are no sound to my AVR, it shows "no signal". With 2.0 audio tracks or 5.1
Dolby digital tracks in other applications I can ear just PCM 2.0 sound.
My AVR can encode Dolby Digital Plus tracks.
Thanks.

Hello, I called Google for this problem with the surround sound and after some
calls and after few days we found the problem: Chromecast can transmit the 5.1
audio just through two app, google play movie and Netflix. Any other app, even
if they have the Dolby Digital Plus audio, can't transmit the surround sound
thought Chromecast. So we tried to transmit the 5.1 audio with Google Play
Movie because we can' twitch Netflix and with this app the surround sound works
great. Therefore I called Netflix and they told me that they have some problems
whit this format when someone try to use Netflix from the browser with HTML 5
or Microsoft Silverlight and from any iOS or Android apps unless with
Microsoft's app downloaded from its store. So Netflix can transmit in 5.1
through Chromecast just with Windows 8 or 10 and not from the browser. But I
found another problem, in fact the Netflix's app downloaded from Microsoft
store can't recognize the Chromecast even if they told me that should work,
namely the Chromecast's icon don't compare in this app.
So every streaming app isn't supported from Chromecast unless Google Play Movie
and Netflix, but actually we can use just one of this. It is a real scam,
before buying Chromecast and after these problems I read a lot about its
potentials, but this limitation, imposed only for a trade issue, is not written
anywhere, everywhere in fact we can read that we can use the 5.1 audio in every
app that supports it.
I am very tempted to ask for a refund.
Sorry for my English, I write from Italy.
Thanks

Still does not play AC3 audio in MKVs. How is this still an issue, Firefox has
this and gets by just fine.
