This seems to be due to a Netflix AWS outage, not an issue with the Cast SDK.

Not so, Netflix was being cast in my bedroom at the same time with a
firestick.

The outage may not have affected all devices the same way. When did you first
see this issue and are you still seeing it?

First saw it yesterday around 6:30 pm est and lasted for more than an hour
on both of my devices. I gave up and ended up watching the firestick. No
longer an issue today.
