Draft weekly update for jupyterhub development #1

@minrk @parente @yuvipanda: Based on @carreau's earlier message about communicating weekly development updates, I've taken a pass at coming up with a brief format for JupyterHub news.

I've emphasized the Python idea "Simple is better than complex".

Overall, the news section is the most important. The rest is just convenience and more info.

Thoughts?

Thanks @willingc ! Awesome ! We might even be able to easily transform a github repository into a weekly RSS feed !

@takluyver @ellisonbg FYI.

Thanks @willingc ! I'd lean towards making the format a bit more concise - I like the news items, but if we're prompting people to include things like activity metrics, I think there's a real risk we'll just avoid writing it.

On the metrics side, it could be interesting to have a separate system to generate metrics automatically, rather than putting them into manually written updates. But that's a bigger project.

HI @takluyver! I agree with you. For the dev news, I would just use the first section with 5 bullets. Simple and high level would also be my preference.

I also agree with you on the metrics. This markdown document is really just a working document for JupyterHub projects. I expect it to evolve. I could see it morphing over time into a notebook or a jinja template that could be autopopulated with metrics.

Nice work, @willingc. I like the bite-sized summary that raises awareness and gives readers just enough info to dig deeper if they wish. Let's continue the experiment and see how the other sections shape up.

This sounds great! I, too, am less sure about what to do in the metrics category, but we can definitely get started on the rest. I also imagine that weekly might be a bit too frequent for JupyterHub stuff. We don't move so fast here. Perhaps bi-weekly or monthly?
