The quickstart guide specifies 'head', 'foot' and 'story' elements, however, these were not visible in [blogdir]/themes/html (I only found the files content_type and index.html)
It seems like the documentation is out of sync with the code, one way or another. It appears that the documentation in docs/themes_and_templates.rst is the right place to look for details on the how the template system works.
