What would be nice would be to create redirect links at every one of the OLD format links, that link to the new format links. This way, old links on the Internet continue to work.
Yeah, the Google crawler is not happy about those broken links, and fixing it should definitely help the PageRank... Upgrading the priority on this one.
In the past, willwilkinson.net had a folder called "flybottle", which contained links of the form
http://www.willwilkinson.net/flybottle/YYYY/MM/DD/SHORT-TITLE/
For example,
http://www.willwilkinson.net/flybottle/2009/07/08/urban-farming/
These links are now all broken. The new link structure has categorizations; for example, the corresponding new link is
http://www.willwilkinson.net/economic%20growth/2009/07/08/urban-farming/
