don't override paths but extend them. this allows you to use a configuration like this

"browserify": {
  "transform": [
    [
      "babelify"
    ],
    [
      "node-lessify",
      {
        "compileOptions": {
          "paths": "node_modules"
        }
      }
    ]
  ]
}

and in your code simply refer to module names like this

@import 'bootstrap/less/variables.less'
