Error Internet Disconnected (Crashes) #565

Open SidCos opened 6 months ago

SidCos commented 6 months ago

When a site connection error occurs, the standard "No Internet" window appears.

error

If you click on the "Running Windows Network Diagnostics" link, the browser immediately crashes (the window just closes). Of course, the error is not critical and few people use this feature, but you should take it into account.

Hello, the crashdump (*.dmp) will help to check what's happened in this case.

SidCos commented 6 months ago

Unfortunately, I don't have access to my computer at the moment. But I think this is not an isolated case, and there are many more surprises waiting for us on WinXP.

I am using Supermium 122 r4 x86 since more than a week non-stop on WinXPSP3 x86 with very challenging workloads, and tons of tabs open. I have never run into the described problem even a single time yet. It appears to be surprisingly stable now for me. I am using cable-wired networking.

Which version of the browser did you use when it happened? Are you using WiFi, or is your network cable-wired?

SidCos commented 6 months ago

Supermium 122.0.6261.152 (R4) Win XP SP3. Wired connection. I have no complaints, this version is very stable. Connection works fine, no problems with opening sites.

But this error can be caused and intentionally (for example, when disconnecting the network adapter) to try to enter the any site. Accordingly, a window with the error will appear. What happens on WinXP when you click on the "Running Windows Network Diagnostics" link?

What happens on WinXP when you click on the "Running Windows Network Diagnostics" link?

Sorry, I don't want to sound unfriendly or stubborn, but I learned 23 years ago to never run the "network diagnostic" or "network autofixup" on Windows XPSP3 on my productive systems. I do groom my networks either by DHCP or by hand.

But thanks to your explanation I do now understand what your ticket is actually about. I thought you complained about that error-site popping up. But in fact you complained about the browser crashing when clicking that link. Thank you for clarification!

It's all right! I never trusted all those "automatic diagnostics" for housewives either... I came across this bug by accident and decided to tell the public about it.
