Descriptions with multiple lines

I can't add multiline descriptions to videos.
Tried:
--description="line1\nline2\nline3"
 on youtube description appears with '\n'
--description="line1<br>line2<br>line3"
 script fails with non-allowed character

How to fix this and add multi-line descriptions?
