Treatment of fundraising expenses #63

Open SanjayRedScarf opened 7 years ago

SanjayRedScarf commented 7 years ago

We were previously treating the fundraising expenses as an item to deduct from the overall expenses. There is now a change in approach, and we are no longer deducting this - it no longer features in the cost per output calculation

Testing suggests that this doesn't appear to have been updated

Another example charity where we can see that the fundraising expenses are currently still being incorporated is Sightsavers. In the future we shouldn't need to worry about this affecting the accuracy of the data as we move away from gathering this info, however we should also be careful to avoid presenting information that says something like Fundraising expenses: £0 This would be misleading since the charity probably does spend money on fundraising

It seems that this is still sometimes an issue. For example, of the charities reviewed on Sat 5th Aug, one of them -- SOS children's villages -- http://app.sogive.org/#charity?charityId=sos-children-s-village -- shows Fundraising costs: £0 This is wrong (SOS children's villages did in fact spend some money on fundraising).

Some other charities worked on that same day show Fundraising costs: NaN This looks a bit funny, but it's not wrong and I can live with it for now. (Examples below)

http://app.sogive.org/#charity?charityId=basic-needs http://app.sogive.org/#charity?charityId=quaker-social-action-qsa http://app.sogive.org/#charity?charityId=city-gateway

Re the comment I just added -- have just checked something and seen that the one charity which said Fundraising Costs: £0 was also the one charity which had already been named in the spreadsheet when the last csv upload happened.

The theory that being the spreadsheet leads to the charity profile page showing Fundraising: £0 seems to be corroborated by other data points too.
