Governing Board Candidate Registration
People who are interested in serving on the Governing Board have to register themselves for the election. This is done by simply posting your motivation to be a Governing Board member in this GitHub Discussion.
The Governing Board meets four times per year and discusses the long-term strategy of MapLibre, is involved in hiring decisions, and approves the budget. The Board meets also with larger donors of the MapLibre Sponsorship Program in the MapLibre Advisory Council four times per year.
Everybody can serve on the Governing Board - there are no requirements regarding Voting Membership or similar in the MapLibre Charter. However, at most one person can serve on the Governing Board per employer.
Voting Member Nomination
Voting Members are the people who can elect the MapLibre Governing Board and vote on changes to the MapLibre Charter, see VOTING_MEMBERS.md.
The Charter states that existing Voting Members can nominate new Voting Members up to two weeks prior to the Governing Board Election.
We use a Pull Request based workflow to nominate new Voting Members, read more here.
Approval New Voting Members
Existing Voting Members can approve or reject granting Voting Membership to someone who is nominated. For this we use a Pull Request based workflow, read more here.
Election Poll
The Governing Board Election Poll is sent out by email to all MapLibre Voting Members and is open for one week.
The Voting Members have to order all the candidates from first choice to last choice. Then, the Meek STV method is used to select the first 5 candidates who will form the next MapLibre Governing Board.
We use an online voting tool called OpaVote for the Governing Board Election Poll.
