Remove tools from AdvDuplicator that are completely unrelated to AdvDuplicator #41

Closed AbigailBuccaneer closed 11 years ago

AbigailBuccaneer commented 11 years ago

I really don't think these should be in with Adv Duplicator. What do others think?

Nebual commented 11 years ago

I don't know why they were there in the first place, but Colormater lets you copy-paste Colour + Material really easily, its a fairly handy low level tool that could get moved to the larger Wire repo if you want.

You can say it has nothing to do with wires specifically, well neither does the Namer tool (puts an overlay on props), but it isn't distributed anywhere else either.

Divran commented 11 years ago

That's a bad example. The namer tool is only useful in wiremod. It lets you name gates so you can more easily keep track of what does what in a large circuit.

https://github.com/wiremod/RandomCrap?

ColonelThirtyTwo commented 11 years ago

RandomStuff would be nicer.

TomyLobo commented 11 years ago

It wasn't an actual name suggestion E1 could be put in there too btw.

Nebual commented 11 years ago

Could throw them in wire extras?

TomyLobo commented 11 years ago

they're not really wire tools. in fact, if there are any random tools in wire-extras, throw them into this repo as well

Anticept commented 11 years ago

We have a small problem gentlemen:

We can't intermingle wire-extras and the wire repo. Remember, Wire extras has a lot of GPL code in it.

Suggestions, such as stripping out all the crap stuff from wire extras and trying to contact the leftover devs? :P Or maybe, grab the stuff that IS worthwhile to keep, get permission, and throw it in the main repository?

TomyLobo commented 11 years ago

just make multiple license files and add headers to the covered files or do you want to throw stuff from wire-extras into wire?

AbigailBuccaneer commented 11 years ago

The ColorMater and EasyWeld tools, as far as I'm aware, are tools that would be useful to people but not so useful that they'd download a separate addon for them.

With the advent of the Workshop, the barrier of perceived usefulness before a user will install an addon has drastically lowered. Why not just have them in a separate addon that's nothing to do with Wiremod?

Kadah commented 11 years ago

These were made by me long long ago. They were private tools I used to make some things easier and were on a private server I was a member of back then. I threw them in here at some point cause other's found them useful and asked for them. ColorMater is a more functional tool that was similar another that was popular at the time. EasyWeld, I don't quite remember what this did, I think it came about when I was working on Derma stuff for Garry and I forked his Easy Weld too for some reason, likely added stuff. AFAIK, there's nothing wire specific about any of them.

There's only the 2 them? I swore I open sourced more of my toolbox stuff that this...

T3rm1 commented 11 years ago

I like the idea. They should be moved somewhere else. Maybe a wiremod util package.

AbigailBuccaneer commented 11 years ago

@Kadah, feel free to merge the pull request. I'd like to see a "Kadah's Toolbox" on Workshop :)

Kadah commented 11 years ago

I have no access to any of the git repos.

AbigailBuccaneer commented 11 years ago

What whaaaaaaaaaaaaaat.

Should I pull the trigger?

Kadah commented 11 years ago

Yeah

TomyLobo commented 11 years ago

and I don't have enough access to give you access... @FaronFox !!!!

Kadah commented 11 years ago

I'll bug him in skype.

Anticept commented 11 years ago

@Kadah @TomyLobo @FaronFox Fixed permissions - added Kadah as administration.
