this is just a really basic sanity-check test. I'll add more specs as I refactor.

And, yes, it takes a ton of dependencies to setup decent tests ... ;)

Should we bump up a patch version or wait until you are done and go up a major version?

There aren't really any functional changes in the last two PRs, so it's not necessary, but it also wouldn't hurt ... There is some dead code removal and basic refactoring in the last one.
